    The Mayflower Compact was made to solve of who was in charge. When the pilgrims left England in a ship known as the Mayflower headed for the Virginia colony but they ended up in what is known as Massuchusetts. This area was not under the control of anybody so they created their own government.

    Baron de Montesquieu was one of the greatest thinkers of the 17th & 18th centuries. he thought about a lot of the governments that should be created and maintained. He thought the people deserved liberty. He studied the laws and he admired the european government which included the pariament to create laws and the courts to interpet those laws. they divided the parts of government so that one part didnt have to much power. this was known as the seperation of powers.

    Rousseau is known for his writings on human behavior and government. he believed that a governments purpose is to protect the liberty or freedom and to help people get along. rousseau talked about 2 different types of freedom. Natural freedom which meant when peoplle live in a state of nature there are no laws or a government. Then social freedom which meant when people sacrifice come natural freedoms so they can have the freedom that comes with security and protection.
