  • US rounds up suspect Al Qaeda members

    They are interrogated in Guantanamo Bay. They provide information on couriers and other people involved.

  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is captured

    He provided information on Bin Laden's courier

  • Hassan Ghul captured

    He provided information that a guy named Al Kuwaiti was crucial to Al Qaeda

  • Abu Faraj Al-Libi captured

    he provides information on the courier, saying that he is Osama bin Ladens link to the outside world.. He also provides information on Osama bin Laden's family

  • US intellegence discovers where courier is operating

  • Phone calls made by courier are being monitored.

    Later, he is spotted driving vehicle near Peshwar, Afghanistan

  • Courier unknowingly leads intelligence forces to compound in Abbotobad

  • Reasonable evidence found for Osama to be in the compound

    US begins planning a course of action in response to this evidence

  • President Obama and NSC discuss plans of action

    They cant decide between missile/air strike, and helicopter landing strike.

  • NSC decides on a helicopter assault

    missile/airstrike gets ruled out, because it would cause too much collateral damage and leave a big mark.

  • President Obama decides to go through with the assault

  • US commandos raid the compound between 1600 and 1640 EST

    -the helicopter assault succeeds. One helicopter is lost do to malfunctions, but there are no casualties on the American side
    -later at 2335 EST, president Obama confirms on national telivision that Osama bin Laden is dead

  • At 1600 to 1640 EST, US commandos successfully carry out the mission

    -one helicoptor is lost, but no American lives were lost, despite the ferocious firefight
    - later on at 2335 EST, Osama bin Laden is confirmed to be dead
