The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Pages 1-18
Eddie is the maintenance man at the Ruby Pier amusment park. However, this particular day that Eddie is at work will be his last, because he dies. One of the rides at Ruby Pier, Freddy's Free Fall, malfunctions while people are on it. Eddie is doing whatever he can to save the people on the ride, with the help of his co-workers. They save the people on the ride, but the cart drops rapidly, threatening a little girl's life. Eddie jumps to save her and is crushed and killed.

The Five You Meet in Heaven, Pages 19-50
Eddie has died, and of the five people he'll meet in heaven, he meets his first. The first person he meets in heaven is a blue man. The blue man was a part of the freak show at Ruby Pier. The Blue Man tells Eddie how when Eddie was a little boy, he ran infront of someones car to fetch his baseball. Eddie remembers this, but he didn't know that the man driving the car was the Blue Man. Eddie also didn't know that that very insident is what killed the Blue Man.

The Five People You Meet in Heave, Pages 51-82
Eddie's second person he meets in heaven is his old Captain from the war. The lesson the Catpain teaches Eddie is about sacrifice. When they were in the war together, they had ecscaped being held prisoner with a few other men. After they had ecscaped, they burned down the enimey's camp that they were held at. They had one minute left to get out of the burning camp, and Eddie sees the shadow of a kid and goes to try and save them. Then Eddie gets shot in the leg.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Pages 83-96
The Captain reveals to Eddie that he was the one who shot him in the leg. Eddie is really furious about this because that injury made him have a limp for the rest of his life. The Captain also reveals how he died. When the crew was taking Eddie to the medical tents, the Captain was checking to see if it was safe. The Captain stepped on a landmine while he was checking and that's how he died. The Captain helps Eddie understand sacrifice. Eddie wonders if he save the girl.

The Five People You Meet in Heave, Pages 97-116
Eddie is outside of a diner in the mountains. Inside the diner is his father. Eddie yells to his father, but he cannot hear him. Eddie's third peson appears, an old lady who looks wealthy. The old lady introduces herself as Ruby, as in the woman Ruby Pier was named after.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Pages 129-144
Eddie's father caught pneumonia from saving Mickey that night, this was something Eddie never knows until now. Ruby teaches him his third lesson, forgivness. Eddie finally is able to forgive his father.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Pages 117-128
Ruby shows Eddie something he had never known about his parents before. Mickey, a family friend and a drunk, tried to take advantage of Eddie's mother one night. Eddie's father walked in and chased Mickey down to the ocean. Mickey was drowning in the ocean, and Eddie's father went in after him with intentions to kill him. However, Eddie's father realized he could not kill his friend for making a drunken mistake. He ended up saving Mickey.

The Five People You Meet in Heave, Pages 145-159
Eddie goes to meet his fourth person in heaven. This heaven is just a bunch of weddings from all over the world. Then, in an Italian wedding, he sees Marguerite, his deceased wife. Eddie and Marguerite talk, and he misses her so much. She looks the way she did when they first met.

The Five People You Meet in Heave, Pages 160-175
Eddie and Marguertie talk for a while before she teaches him the fourth lesson. The fourth lesson is that love is strong. When Marguerite died, and Eddie stayed alive on earth, he still loved her so much, and Marguerite could still feel his love. That's how strong love is.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Pages 176-184
Eddie leaves Margurite. He goes to meet his fifth person. He's first haunted by what seems to be the nightmares he had on earth of the war. Then, he sees that all the nightmares were just kids playing by a river. Eddie sees a little Asian girl gesturing him towards her.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Pages 185-187
The little Asian girl is Eddie's fifth person he meets in heaven. Not only is she that, but she's also the shadow that Eddie saw in the war when his group was burning down the enemie's camp. This shocked Eddie. He had believed the shadow he saw was just his imagination. The shadows belonged to a real child, a child he had killed.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Pages 187-196
Eddie is just shocked and terrified that he had indeed killed a child in that fire. She tells him to wash her in the river, and her body is covered in burn wounds. Eddie does it anyway, and he washes away the burn wounds and uncovered new, healthy skin. The girl then teaches Eddie how his life was not worthless. How his job maintaining amusment park rides saved many children's lives. How Eddie has sacrificed his own life to save a child's life. Eddie can finally move on
