A dream worth fighting for
America from the start was racist, but it was during the Civil Rights Movement that racism was at its highest as African Americans pushed boundaries for not only African Americans in the United states, but all minorities to be equal and united under one nation. -
Plessy v. Ferguson
A court case brought by Homer Plessy only because he didn't want to sit in a jim crow car due to it being unfair. He took his problem to court where judge John H. Ferguson ruled in segregation where everything is separate, but equal. This is important because this was where segregation between colored and whites started. -
Brown V Board of Education
Linda Brown wanted to attend an all white elementary school because it was closer to her house, but her acceptance was denied because she was colored. Her parents take the problem to court where the ruling ended unanimously with everyone deciding that it was unconstitutional to deny any kid the right to attend any school. This is significant as it was a staring point for African American rights. -
