This is when all of europe opened up to free trade within the country. This established a system of trade that lasted for many years. -

It is a time when the city of berlin was surrounded by a communist zone, so americans,the british, and the germans tried to send in supplies via aircrafts. It was significant becuase it was the first time a city was closed into a communist zone, it showed that the domino effect of communism didn't always work. -

It is a group of countries that agrees to follow the north atlantic treaty which means, all will come to the defense of another country in the treaty if attacked by an outside country. It's important because it's still around today. -

This is when the americans tested the first hydrogen bomb, which leads up to them using them against the japanese. It's important because we later use these in war. -

This was an agency, for russia, that was an intelligience, had a secret police, and controlled internal affairs. It was important because it was beginnings of things like our CIA today. -

This was the agreement that would make the hostiles leave Vietnam. It was important because it kept Vietnam from becoming communists. -

This was a wall built by communist to seperate east and west Berlin. It was significant because it spereated europe like an "iron curtain", which was the the first time europe was visibly divided. -

Brezhnev is a militray general in the soviet union. He ran for the second longest time, only being beaten by Stalin. He went back to Stalins strict policies,which held back Russia's economy. -

This is a time of tension between the U.S and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union were backing nuclear missiles in Cuba. This was the first time there was a threat of nuclear war. -

This was a treaty that set equal human rights and set up which european countries were democracies and the ones that weren't. It is significant because it was the turning point in the cold war for european countries relations. -

This is when 444 americans were held hostage by the iranians. It was important because it was a large blow to the united states confidence and security. It made them look weaker to the soviets. -

This was the olympics that was boycotted by America and other countries because of the soviet union war in afganhistan. It's significant because it led the soviet union to boycott the olympics in L.A. -

Lech Walesa was the founder of the polish trade union. It was a trade company that helped regulate trade throughout Europe, even the U.S. helped fund them. It was important because it was the first non-communist controlled trade union. -

This was a summer olympics that was help in los angeles. It was boycotted by many countries in europe, because we had boycotted the 1980's games in moscow. It was significant because it was boycotted but still happened. -

Chernobyl is when a nuclear disaster happend in the city of Chernobyl, Ukraine. It's significant because it closed off a large part of the Ukraine till this day. -

This was when failed attempts of reforms lead to the soviet union back to being Russia. It officially changed the nation back to Russia, which is what it still is today.
