The Cell Theory

  • 400

    Aristotle

First one to come up with the idea of an atom and said it was the only thing he couldn't split. And that genes had to exist.
  • 400

    Ancient Egyptians

They learned much about the human body through rituals that they did. They removed vital organs after death. Though, their understanding of the human body was limited.
  • 400

    Medieval Europeans

During European Renaissance and early modern period, a renewed interest was a discovery of many organism novels. Empricism- That knowledge arises evidence gathered with sensory perception.
  • Period: 400 to

    Cell Thoeory

  • Oct 26, 1543

    Andreas Vesalius

He revolutionized the understanding of the human anatomy and made the most accurate and detailed anatomical book ever produced.
  • Hans and Zacharias Jansen

They are incredible for several achievments. Toward the invention of the telescope and by some historians. They are believed to be the original inventor of microscopes. This invention helped us look at miniscule organisms.
  • Robert Hooke

Published Micrographice describing telescope observations. Some original work in biology. Coined the term cell for describing biological organisms; the term suggested by the resembulance of the plant cells to monk cells. This can help us by seeing what makes up cells.
  • Francesco Redi

He did experiments to discover if rotting meat turns into flies. Meat did not turn into flies and flies made more flies. This theory helps disprove the theory of spontaneous generation.
  • Anton van Leeuwenhoek

He discoved animalcules which are now called mircoorganisms. He was also the first to see bacteria and protozoa.
  • C.F Wolf

He supported his theory of spontaneous generation. And also that life occurs spontaneously at microscopic level without the need for reproduction from pre-existing life. Theory disproved by Lazzaro Spallanzan.
  • Lazzaro Spallanzan

He suggested microbes could make through air which caused crazy generation. He boiled mircobes in a sample to show there was no such thing as spontaneous generation.
  • John Needham

He came up with a theory that supported spontanious generation. Though, it got disproved by Lazzaro Spallanzoni.
  • Jean Baptiste Camarck

Theory of evolution. He came up with lots of evidence that evolution occured due to natural laws which brought him to create first truely coherant theory.
  • Lorenz Oken

He created the new system of animal classification:
    Dermatoza- Invertabraes.
    Glossota- Fish with tongues.
    Rhinozoa- Reptiles.
    Otoeoa- Birds.
Opthalmonzoa- Mammals include all sensory organs.
  • Robert Brown

He was the first to notice a nucleus. He also noticed occurence of the nucleus in these cells and apparently thought of the organization of the plant in terms of cellular constitvents.
  • Theodor Schwann

He discovered that animals where made up of cells.
  • Rudolph Virchow

He was the first to notice leukemia cells. Plagerized work of Robert Remak who showed origins of cells was the division of pre-existing cells.
  • Louis Pasteur

He invented the process to prevent milk/wine from making people sick. The Germ Theory proved that all living things came from pre-existing life, lead to discover vaccines for rabies and anthrax as well as other medicine accomplishments.
