    338,000 British Expeditionary Force and other allied troops were evacuated from Dunkirk to England as German forces closed in on them. This massive operation, involving hundreds of naval and civilian vessels, became known as the, “Miracle of Dunkirk” and served as a turning point for the allied war effort. On May 10, 1940 the so called “The Phony war” ended decisively when Nazi Germany Invaded the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium in a Blitzkrieg attack.

    Axis forces invaded the Soviet Union. Destroyed most Soviet aircrafts on the ground. Axis forces advance deep into Soviet territory Blitzkrieg. They thought it was going to be a quick battle, but it ends up being 4 months long and that the Germans were not ready for the cold winter battle. Germany wanted to take Moscow, the Soviet stopped the German soldiers and caused them to retreat.

    At 8 a.m. hundreds of Japanese fighter planes made their way to the Harbor. They manage to damage or destroy several US ships, battle ships, and over 300 aircrafts. More than 2400 Americans died and including civilians, and another 1,000 were wounded. The day after, the President of The United States aka Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a huge surprise to the world. The USS Arizona was hit, and it eventually fell and sunk in the Pearl.

    Bataan is a province in the Philippines on the Island of Luzon. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Japan quickly took over much of the Southeast Asia. On April 9, 1, 1942942, General Edward King, Jr surrendered to the Japanese. There were about 76,000 combined Filipino and American troops (around 12,000 Americans) that surrendered to the Japanese.

    Midway is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean halfway between Asia and North American. On April 18, 1942, The United States launched its first attack on the Japanese home island. The Japanese formulated a plan to sneak up on the U.S. forces. They hoped to trap a number amount of the U.S. aircraft carriers in a bad situation that could destroy them. On June 4, 1942 the Japanese launched a number of fighter planes and bombers from four aircrafts carriers to attack the island of midway.
  • The battle of Hiroshima/Nagasaki. (An estimated 140,000 deaths by the end of 1945, along with increased rates of cancer and chronic disease among the survivors. Also, it ends World War II.)

    Despite witnessing the terrible destruction of the bomb on Hiroshima, Emperor Hirohito and Japan still refused to surrender. Three days later, on August 9,1945, another atomic bomb, nicknamed Fat Man, was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan. Again, the devastation was horrible. After the bombing the Japanese Finally surrendered to the US forces. On August 6,1945 an Atomic Bomb named Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima.
