    The Hanoverians was established when the last ruler Queen Anne died without a heir. The crown was offered to her relatives.The Hanoverian king was George I. George I did not speak english. Nor the first or the second George knew the British system well. So their cheif ministers were aloud to deal with Parlament.

    Robert Walpole
    He served as the head of cabinet from 1721 to 1742. He perused a peaceful foriegn policy. The growing of trade and industry lead to an increasing middle class. Middle class favored trade and Britains world empire. Their spokesman was William Pitt the Elder. He became head of cabinet in 1757. When he was head of cabinet he expanded the British empire by the seven years war.

    Parliament makes the Quartering Act. This requires the colonies to provide food, housing, and other things to British troops.

    The American Revolution Begins
    After the seven years war the British wanted new revenues from the colonies. These would be to cover war costs. In 1765 parliament imposed the Stamp Act. It required certain print materials and they had to carry stamp on them. The act was repelled in 1766 ending the immediate crisis.

    The Boston Tea Party was on December 16, 1773 a group threw 342 chests of tea into the harbor. It was 90,000 (45 tons) pounds of tea. Each container was about 400 pounds. They did this between 7p.m. and 10 p.m. 116 people were part of this.

    To conteract Britsh actions the colonies organized the first continental congress. They met in PA in September 1774. Members urged colonists to "take up arms and organize militias."

    Patrick Henry gave a speech on March 25th 1775. It was titled "Give me liberty or give me death." He wanted freedom, liberty, and peace.

    Paul Revere was a silversmith. He really hated the British. He rode at midnight to warn people that the British were coming.

    The battle was in Middlesex County, in Province of Massachusetts Bay. About 80 men emerged and stood in ranks on the village watching. Between 40 and 100 people were spectators. The first shot was fired at 5 o'clock

    A year passed before the colonies delclared independence from Britian. On July 4th, 1776 they approved the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Indepence was written by Thomas Jefferson. With stirring political document the American Revolution began.

    Written by Thomas Jefferson between June 11th and June 28th 1776. The Second Continental Congress approved of it on July 4, 1776. It was signed by John Hancock, John Adams, and many more. A fact not commonly known is that 8 out of the 56 signers were born in Britian. The document is 236 years old.

    Washington crosses the Delaware in 1776 with his troops. The troops then captured Trenton from Hessians.

    The Continental Congress adopted the flag. The flag had 13 strips red and white. It had 13 stars in a circle. The stars represented the 13 colonies.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    The battle was between the Continental Army, led by Horatio Gates, and the British Army, commanded by John Burgoyne. The battle was a long one starting September 19 to October 17, 1777. British surrendered another victory for the American troops.
  • Defeat

    American Benjamin Lincoln, surrendered Charleston to the British. While capturing a large American garrison the British lose 255 men.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    Battle of Cowpens
    This battle took place in the northwestern Cherokee County, South Carolina, north of the city of Cowpens. The battle was against the British once again. 110 British soldiers were killed in this battle, they were defeated.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    The battle started in Yorktown VA. Started September 28th and ended October 19th. Cornwallis surrounded on land and sea by Americans and French troops then surrenders.
  • US Constition signed

    The US constition was signed on September 17, 1787. There were 39 of the 55 delegates signed. Its purpose was to replace the Articles of Confederation.
  • U.S. Constitution adopted

    U.S. Constitution adopted, when New Hampshire ratifies it. It was ratified on June 21, 1788. They ratified it to make it "new". It was confirming that it should be apart of the United States.
  • First Presidential Election

    The first presidential election was held from Monday December 15, 1788 to Saturday January 10, 1789. It was the first presidential electon in the us under the United States Constition.
