The cause of death was from a barbiturate overdose, but the theory of whether it was a suicide or not is still disputed, as no farewell notes or indications were found that it had been a voluntary act to end his life.

    In September 1974, during a show in Dallas, Gary accidentally received an electric shock from which he did not fully recover for the rest of his life and in early 1975 he was fired from the group due to his addiction to heroin but it was until the December 8, 1975 when he died at his London home from an overdose.
