In 1961 the soviet union sent the first human into space. Yuri Gagarin was the first person into space and to come back alive. He also orbited the sun once. -
First woman in space
In 1963 the first woman went into space in the soviet union. Valentina Tershkova was the first woman in the world to go to space. With this the soviet has gone way farther than the us. -
Spacewalk
In 1965 a spacecraft carrying Pavel Belyayav and Alexei Leonov. Leonov was the first person to do the spacewalk. -
Moon landing
July 20th, 1969 Apollo 11 landed on the moon. The Apollo 11 had Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to be the first people on the moon. Them being on the moon concluded the space race. -
soviet space probe crashes on moon
1969 July 21st the soviet moon probe Luna 16 crashes on the moon. The soviet was trying to land the probe by the American landing spot. They failed and crashed it.
