    Astronaut John Glenn became the first U.S. citizen to orbit the Earth.

  • Project Apollo

    Apollo 11 landed on the Moon's surface, and Neil Armstrong was the first human to set foot on the Moon.

  • Voyager a and Voyager 2

    Space probes Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 were launched in 1977 and are now headed into deep space. Voyager 1 flew past Jupiter and Saturn, and Voyager 2 flew past Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and Neptune.

  • Galileo

    Galileo was launched in 1989, and reached Jupiter in 1995. In July 1995 Galileo released a smaller probe that began a five month approach to Jupiter, and took a parachute ride through Jupiter's violent atmosphere in December 1995.
