was the first animal launched into space. This helped Russia because this means they have to work on their spaceships to make them survivable. -

was the failed rocket for Russia. Designed to see mercury spacecraft Launch Escape and Recovery systems. This helped Russia because they now know how to evolve their rockets for more space travel. -

He allowed citizens to freely voice their opinions, restructures the Soviet Union's economy, allow Soviet citizens to travel, cracked down on alcohol abuse, and pushed for the use of computers and technology. This made the USSR a better place now that they have a better leader that believes in pushing forward. -

this allowed more freedom in Russia. This helped them because this was helping Russia evolve into a better country to live in. -

the Chernobyl accident with a nuclear factory the Ukraine exploded and the town became uninhabitable. This hurt the Soviet Union was harmed by this because it showed they could not control their nuclear program. -
