  • The Intolerable Acts

    • A series of laws set up by Parliament to punish Massachusetts for its protests against Britain. They were passed after the Boston Tea Party. They blocked so ships could not go in or out of the harbor. Parliament forced colonists for house the British and could not make choices without their approval.
  • The Olive Branch Petition

    The Second Continental sent the Olive Branch Petition to King George III requesting to settle their differences peacefully without going to war. King George rejects the petition. He believes that the colonies are already in open rebellion and if they continue to be , the traitors will be killed. The significance of this is that this has now created the fate of the colonies and they know they are at the " no point of return " . This means war with England and if they loose , then they die.
  • First / Second Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress met in response to the intolerable acts ( started a boycott of British goods and created the Second Continental Congress ) , the Second Continental Congress met in response to defend the colonies ( created the Declaration of Independence and Articles of Confederation )
  • Lexington & Concord

    The battle was between Great Britain and the U.S Colonists ( more so Minuetemen , Captain John Parker , and the British troops ) because the colonists wanted Self Government. 70 MinueteMen were led by John Parker who got them ready for their attack on the red coats. Redcoats won when 174 British soldiers were injured and 73 were dead, they knew America had won their independence.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    The battle took place on Bunker Hill. It was the first important battle of the revolutionary war , the war was to show that the colonists were not going to stand with the way there were going to be treated anymore and wanted the British to know that they will be respected. The colonists ended up have to back out because they had ran out of ammo.
  • Publication of Common Sense

    The Publication of Common sense was a pamphlet made by Thomas Paine explaining the faults of the system and the flaws the King had ( explained why he was not a fit ruler and they did not need him or his unfair , harsh punishments ) . The outcome was that people were inspired by his words and more than 50,000 copies were sold , he gained support for Independence through the congress.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson , it is a document that declared Independence from Britain and a formation of a new country ( USA ) . It states Natural Rights and declares us as free and able to make way peacefully and without war.
  • Battles of Trenton and Princeton

    Washington's soldiers began to cross the Delaware River late one Christmas night and the next morning they surprise attacked the British. The impact of this was that after a side had won , it raised colonists spirit and it had convinced the French to join the colonists while they fought Britain. After this battle , the British no longer had control over New Jersey and were forced to retreat someplace else.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge was a great American trial. 11,000 soldiers died from disease while stationed at Valley Forge. It was the place where the American Continental Army finally came together as a unit , trying to save each other through the horrible winter. Often described as " Birthplace of American Army ".
  • Battle of Yorktown

    The Battle of Yorktown is proven to be the last conflict of the revolutionary war. It was a war led by General George Washington and french forces led by the Comte de Rochambeau against General Cornwallis. It was the surrender of the British.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    It was negotiated in Paris , France. It was a letter for the colonies to get more land and area to build and fit more people in. It recognizes the U.S as a independent .
  • Battle of Sarartoga

    The Battle of Saratoga was the turning point of the American Revolution , it convinced the French to give the U.S military support. It gave the Americans hope that they are a threat and can save themselves.
