Britain took control of Acadia in 1713. It had won the war against France in Europe and gaining control of Acadia became part of the terms of peace. This agreement was the Treaty of Utrecht which gave Britain control of Acadia.

The British required Acadians to take an oath. The oath required the Acadains to stay neutral, if a war between Britian and France broke out. The Acadians took this "Oath of Neutrality."

1754 - Fighting broke out between Britain and France to control the Ohio Valley, along the western boundary of the Thirteen Colonies.

1760- Britain seized Quebec. The war continued in other parts of the world, including the Caribbean, where Britain took the French colony of Guadeloupe.
1763 - France signed the Treaty of Paris with Britain. France kept the colony of Guadeloupe & the cod fishery, islands of St. Pierre & Miquelon -
a war was most likely to break out between Britain and France, Acadians were forced to sign an oath of allegiance. Which meant, when war broke out, the Acadians would fight with Britain and to fight against France. The Acadians wouldn't sign so they were deported.

Also known as the Royal Proclamation, the treaty signed in 1763 to mark the end of the Seven Years' War. Through this treaty, France ceded its North American territories to England, with the exception of St. Pierre and Miquelon.
