Exposition
Greg Harris, a.k.a. Slam is a great basketball player. He dreams of the NBA but doesn't get good grades. He tries out and makes the Latimer basketball team. He lives with his Mom, Dad, and little brother Derek. His best friend's name is Ice, and he has a girlfriend named Mtisha. IDC for Slam: "Basketball is my thing. I can hoop. Case closed. I'm six four and I got the moves, the eye, and the heart"(Myers 1). -
Rising Action 1
Slam meets up with Ice and Mtisha for the first time since he had moved to Latimer. Mtisha tells Slam that Ice has gotten a lot of money lately. There is a rumor he's been dealing drugs. Slam visits his sick Grandmother in the hospital with his Mom. DC for Mtisha: "I mean, if you were looking for something special, you found it when you met up with Mtisha. She was deep brown, with dark eyes that just sparkled out at you."(Myers 25). -
Rising Action 2
Before Slam's first game with Latimer, Mr. Tate, the principal, tells Slam that he needs to get his grades up if he wants to play basketball. Slam's mom introduces a tutor to him but he doesn't want a tutor. Slam and Latimer win there first game against Regis. Slam now has to take responsibility over his grades. DC for Slam: "I don't like hospitals. Whenever I think of hospitals all I think about is people dying and stuff like that"(Myers 32). -
Rising Action 3
Slam has to do a video project for school with a girl named Margie. They decide that he could tape everything that goes on in his neighborhood. Slam takes a big math test and gets a poor grade. Mtisha kind of becomes his new tutor and helps him with his math. -
Rising Action 4
Slam's brother Derek loses the school video camera that he was using to videotape his neighborhood. Latimer loses to Trinity in a one point game. Slam almost gets in a fight with his teacher Mr. Parrish when he says mean comments to him just because he didn't do his homework. -
Climax
Mtisha finds Slam's lost camera in a store that sells old things that people bring in. Latimer plays Carver in the last game of the season. Slam's best friend Ice, plays on Carver. The first half is dominated by Carver, but Latimer comes back in the second half. Slam scores the game winning shot. Latimer now gets to go to the city championships. -
Falling Action 1
Slam and Mtisha are invited to Ice's party after the game. There are tons of people there, Slam is looking for Ice and finds him on the fifth floor of the building. He finds out that Ice has been dealing drugs. Slam and Ice get in an argument and start to fight each other. They had been friends for a very long time and now Slam feels betrayed. -
Falling Action 2
Slam goes to school and everyone is congratulating him on the big victory over Carver. He presents his video that he made about his neighborhood. -
Resolution
Slam keeps working on basketball and still hopes to be in the NBA some day. His grandmother comes home from the hospital and is getting better. Ice and Slam are no longer friends. IDC for Slam: "When Mr. Tate asked my moms did she know how I was doing in my subjects, she said yes, and that I would do better.'(Myers 4),
