Martin Luther King Jr. devoted his life to gain full citizenship rights of the poor, disadvantaged, and racially oppressed in the U.S. During the massive March on Washington he organized, King gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, in which he “subpoenaed the conscience of the nation before the judgement seat of morality.” Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech was a huge influence in the fight for equality, and helped the effort to gain rights for African Americans. -

September 11th terrorist attacks
On September 11, 2001, four commercial planes hijacked by terrorists crashed into several areas in NY, VA, and PA. One plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, while a second hijacked plane hit the South Tower. Meanwhile, a third hijacked plane crashed into the pentagon. That same morning a fourth plane crashed near Shanksville, Pa. This horrible event had an economic and psychological effect on the United States, and had a great emotional effect on Americans.
