Short and Long Term Impacts of Starting Crossfit

  • Joining Crossfit

    Joining Crossfit
A few years ago my dad and his coworkers started a crossfit club at his office and he joined to get more into shape. He continues to workout about 3-4 times a week but at the time he never really saw any consequences and just saw the short term impact of feeling healthy and a long term impact of being in shape.
  • Short Term Impacts of Joining Crossfit

Short term impact is what our minds look at first. Humans never really calculate long term effects unless forced to. For my dad, he wanted to feel healthier and get more into shape. This was the short term and overall long term affect he was looking for after joining crossfit. This proved to be true as he became stronger and felt better after workouts.
  • Long Term Impacts of Joining Crossfit

Long Term Impacts of Joining Crossfit
Nothing bad has occurred yet and my dad still enjoys working out and feeling healthy. One thing he didn't think about was long term effects. If you look at crossfit athletes you can see that the risk of injury is very high. Many things in crossfit can put strain on your body or even cause serious injury. One thing that is occurring to many of his crossfit friends and even him slightly is back problems. Although he never thought about it when he started, he is at a higher risk for injury.

    Was it a Healthy Decision?
Yes, crossfit was a healthy decision for my dad even with the high risk of injury. The community he's become a part of has encouraged him to push his limits and grow stronger. It also created a routine for him which made him overall healthier. All in all due to him being human he didn't see the risks and just saw the positive and short term impacts. But, this crossfit routine has made him stronger, healthier, and happier which is what counts.
