  • Emigration begins to slow

    This year began the slowing of immigration and it would continue to slow until 1815.
  • 1790 Concensus

    Over two-thirds of the white population were of Britsh origin with German and Dutch being the next highest. It also indicated that 20% of American population was of African origin.
  • Imigration began to pick up

    It picked up starting 1815 and increased with each passing decade until 1914, which is the year WWI began.
  • American Frontier is gone

    The US board of the Census announces that the American Settlement Frontier is gone completely.
  • Major Legislation restricting immigration are pased

    The Emergency Quota Act of 1921 is passed on May 19 of the year, limiting immigration from all countries to 3% of it's annual amount.
  • Immigration slumps for over a decade

    The Great Depression and WWII caused immigration to be cut down to a fraction of it's 1913 peak for over a decade.
  • Far more liberal Immigration laws are passed during this decade

    Far more liberal immigration laws are passed during this decade, some examples are: The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 and The Cuban Refugee Adjustment Act of 1966 are the keystones of the liberal Acts.
  • Farm populations decline

    Starting in 1960 and until 1987 the farm population fell 9 million.
  • Urbanization

    By 1990 over three quarters of the US was urbanized.
