Atom model 04

Scientific Timeline

  • Isaac Newton & Robert Boyle

    Isaac Newton & Robert Boyle
Isaac Newton and Robert Boyle piblished articles starting beliefs in the atomic nature of elements
  • Daltons Atomc Threory

    Daltons Atomc Threory
He stated that all matter is composed of very small particles called atoms, and that these atoms cannot be broken into smaller pieces.
  • Coulombs

Formulated the Coulomb's law, which says that the force between two electric charges is equal to the product of the charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them, one of the main forces involved in atomic reactions.
  • Antione Lavoisier

    Antione Lavoisier
Antione Lavoisier found and termed both oxygen and hydrogen, and he also helped list diferent elements together.
  • Dmitri Mendeleev

    Dmitri Mendeleev
Arranged elements into 7 groups with similar properties. He discovered that the properties of elements "were periodic functions of the their atomic weights". This became known as the Periodic Law.
  • G.J. Stoney

    G.J. Stoney
G.J. Stoney proposed that electricity was made of discrete negative particles called electrons.
  • J.J. Thomson

    J.J. Thomson
J.J. Thomson is credited with the discovery of cathrode rays which contain electrons that suround atoms.
  • Albert Einstien

    Albert Einstien
Albert Einstein devised his famous equation E=MC2
  • Hans Gieger

    Hans Gieger
Hans Gieger invented a device that would detect alpha particles.
  • Robert Millikan

    Robert Millikan
Robert Millikian found out the electric charge of and electron to be negative.
  • Henry Moseley

    Henry Moseley
Henry Moseley discovered the atomic number of an elementand said "the number of protons determines the identity of the element and the number of neutrons determines the number of isotobe of the element.
  • Lord Rutherford's Group

    Lord Rutherford's Group
Lord Rutherford brought together a team of physicists, Niels Bohr, Hans Gieger, and Ernest Marsden when they concluded that the atom was mainly empty space, but then they found the nucleus that contained a positive charge and almost all of the mass of an atom.
  • Niels Bohr

    Niels Bohr
Developed an explanation of atomic structure that underlies regularities of the periodic table of elements. His atomic model had atoms built up of sucessive orbital shells of electrons.
  • Walter Bothe

    Walter Bothe
Walter Bothe dicovered the first evidence of a particle.
  • James Chadwick

    James Chadwick
James Chadwick repeated Walter Bothe's work, but he found energy particles with no charge and essentially with the same mass as a proton.
