  • Geneva Convention

    The Geneva Convention of 1929 was an update to some pre-existing treaties. At this meeting in particular, updates were made to how prisoners of war could be treated. Due to this, the treatment of POWs during WW2 was slightly better than it was before.
  • Japan invades china

    The conflict that broke out in China began with a full scale resistance because of the expansion of Japanese influence in its territory. This ended up being chinas victory.
  • Neutrality Acts

    The neutrality acts prevented or limited the shipping of “arms, ammunition, and implements of war” to foreign nations. These acts were to make sure that the U.S. stayed neutral in the war.
  • Nuremberg Laws

    The Nuremberg laws were laws created by Hitler for Nazi Germany that were put in place to dehumanize and seperate the Jewish people from everyone else. This -obviously- created even stronger tensions between the German people which helped WW2 along.
  • kristallnacht

    Kristallnacht was a short period in which Nazis went around Germany destroying Jewish businesses and attacking Jewish people. Before this, most of Hitler’s policies had not been violent and from this point on, everything escalated until the end of the war.
  • Soviet Union annex Baltic States

    The soviet union had annexed the baltic states of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania meaning that their military was occupying them. The nazi party decided to take over these states which led to higher tensions between Germany and the Soviet Union.
  • Non-aggression Pact

    Hitler and Stalin agreed to sign a pact that would ensure that they would not take military action against each other: this was called the German-Soviet Nonaggression Pact. Germany used this as a way to take over Poland with no opposition from the Soviet Union.
  • Blitzkrieg

    Germany began the blitzkrieg against Poland in which they took over the country within the month (september 28). This victory meant that Hitler had more “living space” for his people to live in.
  • War declared on germany by poland, great britain and france

    Great Britain and France declared war on Germany after Germany’s inaction on Poland, Britain and France. Both allies of overrun nation declared war on Germany.
  • Cash and Carry

    The Cash and Carry act effectively counteracted the neutrality act of 1935 meaning that firearms dealers were able to export their goods to the countries involved in the war. The United States was then no longer neutral due to this meaning that we were helping the allies but not the axis powers.
  • Poland Ceases to Exist

    After Germany and the Soviet Union signed the non-aggression pact, Poland lost any real chance of fighting back against Germany when they invaded due to the loss of potential help from the Soviet Union. Due to a part of the non-aggression pact, the USSR gained control over parts over Poland while Germany took control of the rest.
  • Hitler invades Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg

    The Nazi party was easily able to take control of Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg due to their strong military. With so many countries being taken over by Germany, Canada the the U.S. were forced into the war in order to ensure that Britain did not fall into the hands of Germany as well.
  • Hitler invades and splits france

    Hitler invaded Vichy France which then split france into being under control of hitler and General Philippe Petain who then decided that him and Hitler had a common goal and that was “the defeat of England” .
  • Luftwaffe and RAF bombing

    The German air-force, otherwise known as the Luftwaffe, began bombing British cities in the operation known as “The Blitz”. Due to this, the British bombing campaign against Germany began less restrictive meaning that German workplaces were being targeted as well as military bases which led to a decrease in German morale.
  • Selective Training and Service Act

    The Selective Training and Service Act said that men between 18 and 36 must register for a draft. Due to the increase in the size of the United States’ military, we became even more powerful and were able to help keep Germany from invading any more of the allies
  • Tripartite Pact

    The Tripartite Act said that if one of the countries involved were attacked by an enemy country, the others would come to their aid. When the Japanese declared war on the U.S., the other countries that were a part of the Tripartite Pact also declared war on the U.S., despite not exactly having to due to the Tripartite Pact being purely defensive.
  • Lend-lease plan

    The lend-lease plan was a plan that FDR put in place to aid countries that needed support if their defense was vital to the well being of the united states. The plan was set to help britain gain arms to fight but britain would have to pay them back after the war.
  • Hitler breaks Stalin agreement

    The soviets and germany signed an agreement that they could not act against each other if poland could be invaded by the nazis unopposed. Later the Nazis then invaded Czechoslovakia breaking the agreement between the two.
  • Executive Order #8802

    This was the first order made by FDR to stop unemployment due to racial discrimination and promote equality in the united states.
  • u.s. cut off trade with japan

    Japan joined world war 2 and since the united wanted to remain neutral at the beginning of the war the us had to cut iff trade with japan.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    On december 7th 1941 japan surprise attacked the base in pearl harbor. Japan destroyed over 300 airplanes and killed more than 2,400 americans. The united states declared war on japan because of this.
  • U.S declares war

    After the attack on pearl harbor the united states not only declared war with japan but with the Nazis too because they were allies with japan.
  • Atlantic Charter

    The united states and Great Britain teamed up and decided they wanted to live in a post war world so they made a declaration and got 26 other allied nations to sign. This was the first step in starting the united nations
  • Battle of Bataan

    This was the first major land battle for the united states during world war 2. This was one of the most devastating losses in united states history because we had to surrender.
  • U-boat attack

    On january 13th 1942, German u-boats started attacking the american ships on the east coast of the united states. The germans killed nearly 5,000 seamen and passengers.
  • Executive Order #9066

    President FDR signed an order saying removal of any or all people in military areas “necessary or desirable” was allowed. The military took the whole west coast (where many japanese lived) and relocated the japanese in “remote internment camps”.
  • Battle of Midway

    The battle of midway was a naval and air fight between the united states and japan. The us won the
    battle and crash japan's hopes of knocking out the U.S navy during the war and the U.S gained controll
    over the Pacific Ocean.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    The battle of stalingrad was fought between Russian Powers, Nazi Germany, and the axis powers. The battle was known as the longest and bloodiest fight in modern warfare. This changed the war because nearly 2 million people fought and nearly 2 million died in the battle.
  • Battle of El Alamein

    El Alamein was marked as culmination of ww2 in North African campaign between British empire and German and Italy empire. Germany was then to overwhelmed to continue and had to retreat.
  • Island hopping strategy

    Island hopping was a strategy used by the U.S during the war to capture islands one by one near the enemy home bases. The U.S used this strategy because it cute of enemy supply lanes.
  • D-Day

    D-Day was when nazi germany and all of the land it controlled fought against 156,000 American, British and Canadian soldiers. The battle took a while but at the end the Americans, british, and Canadians freed northern rance and beat the Germans.
  • Bulge

    It was hitlers the last major offensive in ww2 against the western fronts. It said to be the most costliest battle and it affected them in the long run.
  • Korematsu vs united states

    Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. government forced over 100,000 Japanese Americans into internment camps. would later contend the act had violated his constitutional rights.
  • Yalta Conference

    The yalta conference was a meeting between the United States, Great Britain, and the Soviets. The meeting was to discuss what would happen to Germany and Europe after the war, and and would begin the new United Nations.

    Was an epic military campaign between the u.s marines and the imperial army of japan. Once the fighting ended the strategic value.
  • liberation of concentration camps

    He concentration camps were for the jews that hitler put in there. The result of this was that the jews took a major toll because of what hitler did.
  • VE DAY (victory in Europe day)

    VE Day was the day that nazi Germany surrendered to the allied forces and the end to ww2. Germany military leaders ended up signing the surrender documents in different locations in Europe.
  • Potsdam Conference

    It was the last off the ww2 meeting held by the last of the big 3. The leaders ended up coming together and made decisions about cultural agreements.
  • Bomb Dropped on Hiroshima

    An American bomber (b-29) dropped the first ever atomic bomb in a city in Japan and wiped out 90% of the city and that it immediately killed 80,000 people. The emperor of Japan Called on a radio and said that they surrender because of the bombs devastating power.
  • Bomb Dropped on Nagasaki

    Another (b-29) was dropped on Nagasaki that ended up killing 40,000 that later killed more due to radiation. The emperor announced that his country’s surrender due to the tens of thousands of people dying.
