Though stricken by poverty she felt this to be an important cultural experence for them. This spurns Rudolf's love for dance. One of the specific performances he cites as perticularly inspiring is "The Song Of The Cranes"

    Due to the invasion of Russsia by Nazi Germany known as "Barbarossa", Rudolf and his family are forced to relocate to Ufa, Bashkir. Here he would live most of his childhood.

    At age 17 Rudolf is given the opertunity to study his art at a school rather than on his own. He is accepted into Leningrad Choreographic School.
    Noticing his potential he is invited to live alongside his instructor Alexander Ivanovich Pushkin. This professional relationship will continue after his graduation when he continues to dance for the Kirov company the school was ascociated with.

    Rudolf tours Paris with the company Kirov, this leads to his premire with Margot Fonteyn's yearly gala for the Royal Academy of Dancing, an event he would be invited to for years to come. This also begins a long lasting relationship with the Royal Academy of Dancing.
