It was during my early years that I gained my first knowledge of the English language because I was born in New York. My experiences in the English language were very positive since I received a good education in care centers to which I attended.

From age six to ten years studied in the best Catholic schools in the city of Camden NY, and that circumstances helped me to develop myself pretty good in English. I could speak it very fluently, I could understand it, read it and write it pretty good. I could communicate in Spanish but it was pretty basic.
-
My parents moved to Puerto Rico. It was that moment where I leave behind the knowledge of English. It was very hard because my primary language was English and the school I attended for that time the education was entirely in Spanish, and English that were taught was very basic. As the years go by I felt that my language was declining because I was living in a Spanish speaking population and I stop practicing my English and that's when Spanish it's getting over.
-
The knowledge of the language was getting left behind since I didn't practice it with anyone. My English skills were declining while my Spanish skills were increasing. I could speak Spanish very good, develop themes, summarize stories, novels, writting essays.
-
My husband and I decided to move to N.Y. with our two daughters. At that time I was obliged to return to practice English, a situation that helped me a lot because I could practice it again.
-
I moved back to PR with my family and I decided to study in college. This experience helped me a bit, although my curriculum got nothing to do with English, I only took basic English. Now my Spanish seems to be first.

After I graduated from college, I got a job at a bilingual school called the Lyceum Aguadillano, giving first grade and second grade in math and science, this experience helped me a lot because it reinforced my English.
-
I can see that my English language is not bad. I can communicate and the people ca understand me, but as a professional I understand that I need to know more conversational English and learn more grammar because I have much difficulty writing it.
-
It has been difficult in the writing aspect because I'm not good at writing but I understand it pretty good and can hold a nice conversation. I hope this help me to develop my writing skills.
