  • Proclamation Line

    This line was an effort to keep colonists from settling on Indian territory. It was issued to keep colonist at bay and not let them explore any land/territory.

    It was an act to provide for the quartering of British regulars. It expired on January 2, 1764
  • Stamp Act

    An act of the British Parliament that imposed a direct tax on the colonies. It required that many printed materials in the colonies be produced on stamped paper.
  • Declaratory Act

    The British Parliament that went along with the repeal of the Stamp act. It said that the Parliament's taxing authority was the same in America as in Great Britain.
  • Townshend Acts

    Series of acts that taxed items like tea, paper, and glass.
  • Boston Massacre

    British troops killed 5 american colonists after the colonists threw snowballs and then rocks at the troops.
  • Committee of Correspondence

    Provisional Patriot emergency governments established in response to British policy on the eve of the Revolution.

  • Tea Act

    This act was one way the British could make the colonist pay them taxes to help with their heavy debt. It's purpose was not to raise revenue for the colonist but to bail out the East India Company.
  • Boston Tea Party

    After the British placed a tax on tea and other goods the Sons of Liberty stepped in and decided to dress up as Indians and bored British controlled ships in the Boston Harbor and threw tea and other goods into the harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Taxes placed on goods by the British meant to punish the colonist for the Boston Tea Party.
  • Shot heard around the world

    This refers to the first shot in the American Revolutionary War.
  • Common Sense

    This document written by Thomas Paine challenged the British governments authority and the authority of the royal monarchy. This was the first work to ever ask for independence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    A statement adopted by the Second Continental Congress meeting at the Pennsylvania State House. It said that the 13 colonies would be 13 states and no longer be under British rule.
