  • The French and Idian War

    The French and Idian War
    Most of the battles were fought in Canada. It was Great Britain against the north American indians and the French. The war lasted from 1754-1763. The British won the war, and the right to keep Canada.

    The Stamp Act
    It was the first direct tax on Colonists. Every newspaper, pamphlet, and other public and legal documents had to have a stamp on it. The stamp cost money, and Colonists thought they shouldn't have to pay for it.

    The Congress was created in response to the stamp act. Congress delivered answers to the King in Britain. The stamp act Congress gave a model for the Continental Congress.

    The Townshend Acts
    Were a series of laws named for Charles Townshend, the British treasurer. The laws placed taxes on glass, tea, paper, paints, and lead. The British sent more troops as a response to the, sometimes, violent American reaction.

    British troops shot five Americans, an African American man named Crispus Attacks died. Each side disputes nearly every part of the story. And the massacre worsened the Americans distrust of the British.
  • The First Continental Congress

    A group of 56 delegates from all the Colonies, besides Georgia, met in Philadelphia. They wanted to act together as a response to the intolerable acts. They met in secret so the British didn't know.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    A group of American Colonists dressed as Mohawk Native Americans and boarded three British ships. They then dumped 342 crates of British tea into the Boston harbor. Similar events happened around the Colonies, and tea was eventually boycotted throughout the Colonies.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The British marched to Concord because it was an arms depot. No one knows who fired the first shot, but its called "The shot heard around the world". Both sides opened fire, forcing the Americans to retreat.

    The congress met when the Revolutionary War had started, things were not going well. The armed forces were disorganized, so they created the Continental Army.

    Was the first president of the United States and was Commanding Officer of the American Armed Forces during the Revolutionary War. Washington served two terms as president, during which he created the cabinet, and tried to subdue the bickering between the political parties.

    The Battle of Bunker Hill
    A two day battle between the British and Americans. The Americans had occupied Breed’s Hill in Charleston, trying to protect a shipyard in Boston. The British attacked the next day,Americans fired till they ran out of ammo then were forced to retreate.

    Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" is Published
    Paine was a patriot and an American soldier, whose main contributions were in through writing. His pamphlets angered the American population and pushed the Revolutionary cause.
  • The British Evacuate Boston

    The British Evacuate Boston
    The British were forced to evacuate after George Washington's placement of cannons and fortifications on Dorchester Heights which overlooked the city from the south.
  • The Sugar Act

    The act put a 3 cent tax on foreign/refined sugar, it also increased taxes on coffee, certain wines, and indigo. These taxes were raised without consent of The Colonists, and was one of the first times Colonists wanted a say in taxes.

    Richard Henry Lee of Virginia proposes independence to congress and John Adams seconded the motion. Voting was postponed until July 1st do to debating.
  • The Declaration of Independence was Adopted

    The Declaration of Independence was Adopted
    Written by Thomas Jefferson, and declared in effect by the Continental Congress. It declared the 13 Colonies independence from Britain.
  • The Declaration of Independence is Signed

    The Declaration of Independence is Signed
    John Hancock, John Adams, and Samuel Adams all signed including many other Americans. Great Britain responded by continuing the war.
