    This was a physiological enlightenment that greatly inspired both the French and American revolutions by inspiring beliefs of equality, liberty, and justice for all people.
  • Thomas Jefferson

    Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the US, served in the continental congress, and the ambassador to France during the revolution. He, along with Marquis de Lafayette, wrote the declaration of independence.
  • John Locke

    John Locke was an enlightenment philosopher who greatly inspired Thomas Jefferson with his ideals of life, liberty, and property. These ideals were also put in the declaration of independence.
  • George Washington

    He was a major general in the uphill war against the British for independence, along with being a part of the continental congress, and later becoming the first president of the United States.
  • Lexington & Concord

    These were the first battles of what would become the revolutionary war. They started when British troops were sent to stop the growing rebellion. Even though the colonists lost it served as a warning to the British that the colonists were ready to fight.
  • Second Continental Congress

    This was the second meeting of the first real self governing body of the colonies, and it was the group that declared independence for the colonies.
  • Bunker Hill

    This was the first planned encounter between the rebels and the British, and while it was another lose for the colonists, it boosted the moral of the colonists and inspired them to join in the fight.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    This was an attempt to defuse to situation between the colonies and the British before they got too bad. This completely backfired though, the king refused to try and make peace which pushed more people to rebel.
  • Declaration of Independence

    This was Americas formal split from Britain following the revolution. It officially established America as its own country and abolished all remnants of British control on the colonies.
  • Valley Forge

    This was a battle lasting 6 months that truly tested the moral and mental strength of the soldiers, and the soldiers who survived inspired hundred of colonists to keep fighting.
  • Cowpens

    This was the first true victory of the revolution, and this proved to the British that the colonists were capable of wining this war without using cheap tactics like attacking at night.
  • Yorktown

    This was the last major battle of the revolution, and the war where Britain officially surrendered and ended the war.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The treaty of Paris was Britain's response to the DOI officially granting them independence and giving them western land that they didn't have access to before.
