  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    Colonists and British wanted a western expansion but that territory belonged to the French and Natives. The French didn't want to give up the land because they respected the Natives. The British and French fought, with Native allies on both sides, until the war ended in British victory in 1763.

    Treaty of 1763
    Signed to end the French and Indian War, signing this treaty made France give up French Territory in North America.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    A law written by King George that gave the Natives access to any land west of the Appalachian. It angered the colonists because they didn't want boundaries as to how far they should travel west They felt the British were being too harsh on them still.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    British needed money to pay for the debt left after the French and Indian War so they looked to the colonists for help. They felt the French and Indian War was protection for the colonists so they felt the colonies should be taxed on any paper and stamp related items. This included newspaper, letters, paper, and anything in those categories.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    2,000 British soldiers occupied Boston to enforce the Stamp and Townshend Acts. The colonists attacked loyalists, soldiers, and stores and everything was building up. The colonists destroyed and vandalized a store near where a British soldier, Ebenezer Richardson, lived. Ebenezer, in attempt to break up the riot, fired his gun blindly. The bullet struck and hit a boy which made colonists more angry. This led to them attacking him and a long battle between colonists and soldiers.
