Phonograph was the first machine to record sound and play it back. It was invented by Thomas Edison in 1877 in America. -
Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison was born on the 11 of february in 1847 in Milan, Ohio, U.S.A. He died on the 18 of october of 1931. He invented the Phonograph. August 12, 1877 is the date popularly given for Thomas Edison's completion of the model for the first phonograph. Edison was trying to improve the telegraph transmitter when he noticed that the movement of the paper tape through the machine produced a noise resembling spoken words when played at a high speed. -
The first disc record player or gramophone
The first disc record player or gramophone was invented in 1888 by the Alemanian inventor Emile Berliner. The mechanism was very similar to Edison’s phonograph except that the sounds were stored on a flat disc rather than on a cylindrical drum. -
tape recorder
The tape recorders were used for the first time in the 1920s. It records sound in the form of a magnetic pattern on a long piece of tape. The magnetic particles produce electric signals which are reproduced as sound. -
Cassette tapes
They appeared on the market in the 1960s. Smaller tapes meant that smaller tape recorders were made. -
Personal stereos (Walkmans)
The Walkmans was invented by engineers at the Sony Corporation in japan, in 1979. Walkmans could not record sound but they were an instant success. -
compact discs
The compact discs were invented in 1980 by the electronics companies Philips and Sony.The sound is recorded digitally as a series of numbers. A compact disc player uses a laser beam to scan the disc and play the sound. The Discman quickly replaced the Walkman. -
mobile phones
Nowadays, people listen to music on their computers or download music from the Internet onto their mobile phones.
The mobile phones was invented years ago, but with the time phones improved, and nowaday we can listen music.
