  • Black Codes

    Black Codes
    Law passed by the Democrat-controlled Southern states. These laws had the effect of restricting African Americans freedom, and pushing them back to being a slave. This Code was significant to the reconstruction time because this showed the racism that was provided by others.
  • Freedmen's Bureau Acts

    Freedmen's Bureau Acts
    This act protected and aided former slaves after the war. This act is significant because it helped protect slaves from being brought back into different forms of slavery.
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    This amendment give people citizenship rights and equal protection of the laws. This was significant because it was brought in because of response to issues related with former slaves.
  • 13th Amendment Ratified

    13th Amendment Ratified
    An amendment to finally stop slavery. The only way this amendment didn't work was when it was used for a punishment for doing a crime. This is significant to the reconstruction because it helped rebuild America and treat others as equals
  • Civil Rights Act

    Civil Rights Act
    This act ended segregation in public places. This also banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin.
  • Reconstruction Act

    Was the process for readmitting Southern states to the Union. This Act was significant because it gave a plan on how to put Southern states back in the Union with everything being fair to African Americans and slaves.
  • 15th Amendment

    15th Amendment
    This amendment gave all male citizens the right to vote regardless of race. This amendment is significant because it made everyone being able to vote one step closer.
  • Enforcement Act

    This act was three bills passed that protected African Americans' right to vote, hold office, to serve on juries, and receive equal protection of laws. This act is significant because it helped provide a more supportive and protective ability for African Americans.
