    Five days after lee's surrender he got assassinated. John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre. He died in the house across the street the next moring

    He was among two state senators and 25 black republican state representatives. He gave a speech that denounced the legislatiors who had refused to seat african americans senators and representives. He was among the first group of reconstruction-era african americans elected officials.
