    The amendment outlawed slavery and had to be met by southern states to rejoin the Union.This amendment also cancelled war debt and secession.States also had to write a new Constitution that outlawed slavery.

    Henry Mcneal Turner was one of the first African Americans to serve in Georgia's government after the Civil War. He was a preacher from Bibb County, Georgia. Many white men did not like him for his radical positions.

    The election of Rutherford B.Hayes was the official end of Reconstruction in the south. He was tied with Samuel Tiden for electoral votes, but made a deal with the remaining southern states to end the Reconstruction. This was called the Compromise of 1877.
