Abraham Lincoln gave the emancipation proclamation and stated that all slaves on US soil were now and forever freed. This lead to the rush of freed slaves wanting to enlist in the fighting and help the Union beat the Confederacy.

The KKK was a white supremacist group that specifically targeted African Americans. They committed violent acts which most of the time lead to many African Americans, and Americans in general, dying. They disappeared for a while, but then in 1915, they gained tons of support again.

The Civil rights bill was brought up in congress but the President; President Johnson, vetoed the bill. This was the first time in history that the president veto was overruled. He vetoed it in 1865 but they still put it into effect.

This amendment stated that all people born in the US are automatically considered US citizens. It also stated that is someone were to violate a citizen's right to life and liberty, or their property, it would be a lawfully prosecuted crime.

This amendment stated that all US citizens (men) were to have the right t vote. It was not to be taken for any reason because of race, skin color, or if the person voting was formerly a slave.

Sharecropping was established to help the people that owned no land and couldn't find any other work. At the beginning of sharecropping, it was most recently freed slaves working the white-owned farms and plantations. It was created in the early 1870s.
