    Black Codes
    Laws made to try to control the freed African Americans, saying they couldn't own or rent a farm. These laws also made it possible for white males to take advantage of the African Americans to make them work harder.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1866

    Civil Rights Act of 1866
    This law gave the federal government the authority to get involved in state affairs to protect African American's rights. Also, it granted citizenship to African Americans.
  • Reconstruction Acts

    Reconstruction Acts
    The 1st Reconstruction Acts stated that the Confederate States that had not ratified the 14th Amendment had to form new governments. There were 10 states effected by this act, which were serperated into five military districts. The 2nd Reconstruction Act gave the army the power to register voters in every districts, and also to organize state events.
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    This amendent stated that: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherin they reside" -the Fourteenth Amendment. This guarenteed and protected the citizenship given to African Americans.
  • The 15th Amendment

    The 15th Amendment
    This amendment said that state/federal governments had to let every male citizen vote, no matter what race or color they were.
