Frredmen's Burear
The Burear helped African Americans adjust to frredom. It provided food, shelter,clothing,and medical services. IT also set up schools and it gave the Afrucan American's the education they needed. -
Lincoln is assasinated.
President lincoln attended a play at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C. He is assasinated by John Wilkes Boothe in the middle of the play. Later he could not survive the damage done to his head. He wanted to allow the South to rejoin the Union without any trouble. However, the Radical Republicans had other ideas. Andrew Johnson is also president. -

Southerners come to Washington D.C.
The Southern whites have started to follow Andrew Johnson's plan and soon elected representitives. But when they arrived in Washington D.C., they were denied their seats. Most of the Republicans would refuse Southerners their seats on such easy terms. -
The 13th Amendment
It was passed in 1865 to abolish slavery. It made it so there was no slavery in the USA. Exept for Texas that still had the right to slavery.The South had to secede to ownind slave's. -
The Black Codes
The Black Codes are created to control freed men and women. These codes prevented African Americans to owning land or even working for pay. To Northeners and these people, the Black Codes resembled slavery. -
First Reconsrution Act
Called for the cvreation of a new governmenting the 10 southern states.Thew states ratifyed the 14th amendment. Tennessee ratifyed keeped its government and rejoined the union. -
Second Recontruction act
Military commanders had to register voters.They also had to prepare for state consituional conventions.That is what the second reconsturction act is. -
A New Amendment
It is 1868 and a new amendment has been passed to make the laws more powerful. It is now called the fourteenth amendment and it says nothing can take a citizen's life, liberty, or property without support from the law. -
14th amendment passed
It was the first recontructuion act passed.It created 10 new governmentsin southern states.It also gave the right to african American men to vote. It was important because it gave them rights. -
The 15th amendement Passed
The 15th amendment prohibited the state and govermentfrom denying the right ot vote to any male citizen. It said that you cant let them not judge them by there race,color,or previouse servitude. It let ant african American vote. -
Amnesty Act
It helped most of the south.All the could vote and hold office again.It suppoted the southern democratic party. Then the Ku Klux Klan heplped the Democratics with terrorizing the repulican. -
Compromise of 1877
Included the favors to the south.The new government would give more aid to the southerners after all the damage of the war. The Republican party in the south collapsed. This happened because the norht tolk away there troops. -
Jim Crow Laws
It tlk away some of the rights og the African american's.IT caused Segergation to happen. It made it so African american's had no rights to liberty any more. -
Plessy Vs Ferguson
It involved seperate places on trains.The court said it was legal.As long as african Americans have access.
