1st Freedmen’s Bureau Act
This act provided the freedmen with immediate shelter and medical services. -
The Civil Rights Act of 1866
This act said that everyone born in the U.S. was declared to be a citizen regardless of their race or ethnicity. -
2nd Freedmen’s Bureau Act
This act removed the expiration date on the previous Freedmen’s Bureau Act, and also expanded the power of military governors to protect freedmen. -
The Military Reconstruction Act
This act divided ten former confederate states each into five districts under the control of the Federal military. -
The 14th Amendment
This act made citizenship to anyone born in America a right, and counted everyone as one person, regardless of race. -
The 15th Amendment
The 15th Amendment granted African Americans the right to vote. -
Enforcement Act of 1870
This act protected black Americans against violence from terrorist groups such as the KKK by prohibiting groups of people from gathering. -
Civil Rights Act of 1875
This was the last of the major reconstruction acts, and prohibited discrimination in public placed towards black Americans.
