Military Reconstruction Acts

The military reconstruction act was a rule that allowed african americans to vote and divided the South into 5 districts. The congress passed this because they didn't want the South to have so much power in office.

Andrew Johnson's Impeachment Trial

Feb 24, 1868

Andrew Johnson was to be impeached because he violated the Tenure of Office Act, but was saved by the fact that he was one vote away from being impeached. It was also believed that Andrew Johnson was too lenient with the South.

Election of Ulysses S Grant.

Ulysses S Grant's admnistration was full of crooks, which led to him being marked with scandals. Grant tried to advane rights for African Americans by pushing the 15th amdment.

14th Amendment

The 14th amendment officially gave everyone who was wronged during the civil war legal rights.

15th Amendment

Mar 30, 1870

The 15th amendment was significant because it outlawed any restrictions against african americans.

The time of reconstruction finally ended when the compromise of 1877 was passed.
