The Ku Klux Kan was when white peopel dressed in all white and used violence to make sure African Americans did not get theire freedom. They would sometimes even hang black people. They made everyone fear them. The group was also called the K.K.K

Abraham Lincoln was shot at Ford theater by John Wilkes Booth. He was then carried to a boarding-house right by the theater. Abraham Lincoln then died nine hours after this horrible traggedy.

Andrew Johnson amideintly became president after Abrham Lincol was assasinated. The Radical republicans did not like Andrew Johnson and tried to get him out of office. He then later died in 1869.

These laws where used to try to get African Americans the freedom they deserved. The law explained that African Americans where not property. Many people did not like this law, and they would try to use violence and fear to make sure that this law would not take affect.

Durinig the Reconstruction period people had to pay to be able to vote. This was called poll taxes. People put poll taxes on voting, because people did not want slaves to vote. Slaves coulden't vote when there was poll taxes, because they had never had any jobs so that means they had no money to pay to vote.

Literacy tests where what African Americans and whites took so they could be able to vote. In the literacy tests you had to read very hard words and read parts of the Constitouition. If you did not pass these tests you could not vote.

This was a case that was for African Americans to get equall rights, just like all of the whites. This later became a law in Lousiana. This law was then overturned in 1954 by, Brown v. board of education.

The Grandfather clause was made to prevent African Americans from voting. The grandfather clause was for when white people failed the literacy test they could tell the vote people that theire grandfather of father has voted before. This could not work for African americans because they weren't aloud to vote before, so that means that none of theire relitives have voted.
