  • The Black Codes

    The Black Codes
    The Black codes were laws passed just after the civil war aimed to take advantage of freed men and women. These laws made it illegal for African Americans to rent or own farms. Another of these codes allowed officials to arrest african americans who did not have jobs.
  • Reconstruction Acts

    Reconstruction Acts
    The First Reconstruction Act required states that had not adopted the Forteenth Ammendment, to form new governments. The only state to actually use the Fourteenth Ammendment was Tennesse, which then rejoined the Union. Former confederate leaders were banned from being a major part of the new governments in each state. The Second Reconstruction Act empowered the army to register voters in each district, and then organize state constituational conventions.
  • 14th Ammendment

    14th Ammendment
    This law allowed all people born or naturalized in the United States to be a citizen no matter what race or color they were. Everyone had the same rights and privileges. The 13th Amendmant banned slavery, and this amendment was meant to help the freed slaves and make everyone equal.
  • 15th Amendment

    15th Amendment
    The 15th Amendment granted all U.S. citizens the right to vote. Laws were also passed in this amendment to protect the right to vote for all races.
  • The Civil Rights Act of 1886

    The Civil Rights Act of 1886
    This Law guarantied that no other law could be passed to take away African Americans Citizenship. This law was part of the Fourteenth Ammendment.
