  • Coal Strike of 1902

    When 140,000 coal miners in Pennsylvania went on strike and demanded a 20 percent raise, a nine-hour workday, and the right to organize a union, the mine operators refused to bargain. Roosevelt had a talk about the strike at the White House with the opposing sides and it was settled.
  • Newlands Reclaimation Act

    (Domestic Policy) (1902) Act that provided federal funds for the construction of dams, reservoirs, and canals in the West. These would open new lands for cultivation. The act had little effect for the first twenty years of its existence, but eventually it provided for years of federal aid for irrigation and the development of electrical power in the western states.
  • Northern Securities Company

    The Court found the holding company to be violating the Federal Anti-Trust Act because it restraint interstate and international commerce. The Federal Anti-Trust Act applied because it sought to eliminate competition between competitive railroads.
  • Department of Commerce and Labor

    the cabinet department created in 1903 by Teddy Roosevelt to help with increasing antagonism between capital and labor
  • Food and drug administration

  • United States Forest Act

    is an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture that administers the nation's 155 national forests and 20 national grasslands, which encompass 193 million acres (780,000 km2). Major divisions of the agency include the National Forest System, State and Private Forestry, and the Research and Development branch.
  • Social Welfare Programs

    Programs which helped insure a minimum standard of living. Programs were unemployment, accident and health insurance, and the social security system
