    Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president of the United States. After the Battle of Antietam President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which freed the slaves. Lincoln was the first president to ever get assassinated.

    Andrew Johnson
    Andrew Johnson ratified the Thirteenth Amendment which outlawed slavery. He also purchased Alaska in 1867. President Johnson also ratified the Fourteenth Amendment in 1868 which granted citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States.”

    Ulysses S. Grant
    The Transcontinental Railroad was completed in 1869 while President Grant was in office. He ratified the Fifteenth Amendment in 1870 which allowed gave all citizens the right to vote. The Credit Mobilier Scandal dealt with the insiders of the Union Pacific Railroad in which they were hiring themselves and paying themselves $50,000 a mile when its should have cost $30,000.

    Rutherford B. Hayes
    Rutherford B. Hayes ended Congressional Reconstruction with the Compromise of 1877. The Bland-Allison Act tried to get all currency backed by gold. President Hayes Pronounced the necessity of creating an American controlled canal in Panama in1880.

    President Cleveland unveiled the Statue of Liberty on October 28, 1886 after the people of France gave it to the U.S. He past the Interstate Commerce Act in 1887. The Dawes Severalty Act allowed Pesident Grover Cleveland to survey Indian land and divide it for individual Lands.

The Sherman Silver Purchase Act was passed in 1890 which increased the amount of silver produced by the Gov. Harrison was also the first president to have electricity in the White House.

    President Roosevelt was sworn into office at the age of 42 which was the youngest president elected so far. He aquired the rights to make the Panama Canal. Roosevelt also created "The Square Deal."

    William Howard Taft was one of the biggest presidents ever. The Payne-Aldrich Tariff Act (1909) was created. while Taft was president. President Taft also had the Sixteenth Amendment Ratified.

    Woodrow Wilson ratified the Seventeenth Amendment which called for direct election for Senators. He also created the Federal Reserve Act. President Wilson also created the Clayton Anti-Trust Act.

    Calvin Coolidge created the Immigration Act of 1924 while in office. He also created the Revenue Acts of 1924 and 1926. President Coolidge also had major tax reductions made.
