    Arms Race
    A competition in the development of weapons (especially nuclear weapons) between the U.S. and Soviet Union. Each side was continuously improving their weaponry, making each weapon better and stronger than the opponents.

    Military and political tension between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. after WWII. The main reason of this war were the political differences between the two countries; America allowed free elections and competing political parties, but the U.S.S.R was a totalitarian regime that there were little to no rights for the citizens.

    The principle that the U.S. should provide support for those being invaded with Communism or those being threatened by the Soviet Union. He made this Doctrine & Marshall Plan in hopes that the result would be containment.

    The U.S. providing economic support to help rebuild Western Europe. Not only just Western Europe was being provided for, other countries in Europe not under Communist rule also received help by the U.S.

    Was created to help rebuild military alliances after World War II, especially the U.S. and Soviets.

    A 20th century competition between two Cold War rivals, the Soviet Union and the United States, for supremacy in spaceflight capability. Included the Sputnik, the explorer, and apollo missions.

    Launching of Sputnik
    The first artificial Earth satellite that the Soviets launched to an elliptical low Earth orbit, this surprised Americans by a long shot. Everyone started to fear that the Soviets were ahead in the game by space exploration and military missiles. This convinced Eisenhower to increase defense spending and the space program.

    An unsuccessful invasion of Cuba by Cuban exiles. An armed force of about 1,500 Cuban exiles landed in Bahia de Cochinos on the south coast of Cuba.

    Confrontation of the U.S. and Soviets over the presence of missile site in Cuba. The Soviets were secretly building nuclear launch sites in Cuba that could literally hit Florida within 20 minutes, the U.S. then blockaded Cuba until the Soviets dismantled the missiles.
