  • Chinese: Naturalization Act

    Law allowing only free white persons to become American citizens.

    The mass movement of about five million southern blacks to the north and west.

    Another 800,000 blacks left the south with a desire to escape oppressive economic conditions in the south.

    398,000 blacks migrated to cities in the North and West. Like Chicago, New York, Oakland, LA, and Seattle.They left with the promise of greater prosperity in the north.

  • Chinese Laws Repeal

    Congress repealed all laws relating to the deportation and naturalization of Chinese people. They also enabled people of Chinese descent to become American citizens.
