Oscar Wilde was the second of three children, born to Sir William and Jane Francesca Wilde.

Until the age of nine, Oscar was educated at home by a French bonne and a German governess. Oscar then attended Portora Royal School in Enniskillen.

Wilde was sent to gail because of gross indecency and sentenced to two years' hard labour. Here he became ill. Wilde was released on May 19, 1897.

Wilde died of cerebral meningitis.

Wilde was initially buried inthe Cimetiere de Bagneux; in 1909 his remains were disinterred to Pere Lachaise Cemetery. In 1950 his ashes were placed in a compartment in the tomb.

Since 1999 admirers bestowed lipstick kissed on the tomb and the wore downt the stonework the tomb is now outfitted with a enw glass barrier to shield the grave.
