    After taking loot and women, Odysseyus and his men take more time than they should to leave. Cicones has time to recover and they launch an attack, forcing Odysseyus and his men to leave.

    Odysseyus and his men land on the Island of the Lotus Eaters
    Odysseyus and his men meet the Lotus Eaters. Whoever eats the Lotus becomes relaxed and has no intention of leaving. Odysseus is forced to drag his men back to the ships to escape.

    Odysseus and his men land on the Island of the Cylcops
    Odysseus and his men meet Polyphemus, the cyclops. He kills and eats some of Odyseus's men then traps them in his cave. Odysseus then stabs out the Cyclops's eyes and he and his men escape under the bellies of the sheep.

    Oysseyus escapes the Cyclops
    As they escape Polyphemus hurls boulders at them. Odysseyus feeling cocky tells them the giant who really beat him, Odysseyus. The giant calls upon his father, Posideon, god of the sea, to curse Odysseyus. Posideon then curses Odysseyus so that if he were to ever return home, he find it in shambles and all his men dead.

    Aeolus, the wind god, gives Odysseyus a bag of winds to spped along his journey, however he is not to open it til the right moment. Unfortunatley his men believing the bag to be treasure open it and the boat is shot off course.

    Laestrygonian Island
    Odysseyus and his men stopped at an island to get supplies and rest. The island was inhabited by the Laestrygonians who upon apperance began to kill and eat Odysseyus's men. Odysseyus's boat escaped but the rest of his fleet was destroyed.

    Circe's Island
    Odysseyus and his men come to Aeaea a island controlled by Circe. Odysseyus sends out a group of his men to inspect the Island. However Circe turns them into to pigs. Odysseyus goes to get his men back but he is stopped by Hermes, the messenger god, who gives him a plant that will make him immune to Circe's magic. When she sees that Odysseyus can withstand her magic she immediatley agrees to help.

    Odysseus in The Underworld
    Odysseus visits House of Death to speak to the prophet. To do this he sagrifices animals in a pit for the dead to drink. He speaks to his mother who tells him that she died from missing him. He also speaks to Agamemnon, who does not trust women because his wife murdered him. He sees and speaks to many heroes and sees the punishments that some of the dead in the underworld have to endure for eternity. Including Tantalus who cannot eat or drink and Sisyphus who must push a boulder up a cliff.

    After a year, Circe tells Odysseus to visit a prophet named Tiresias, in the Underworld, to hear his prophecy before he heads home. As the men prepare to leave, Elpenor, the youngest of the men, falls off a roof while intoxicated and breaks his neck.

    The Prophecy from Tiresias

    The Prophecy from Tiresias
    When Odysseus speaks to Tiresias, the prophet gives him instructions. He must go to the Island of the Sun God, however he can not harm the animals that live there. Then he must travel to Ithaca and slay the suitors. After he kills them all he must leave to a place where people have never seen the sea and he must sacrifice a ram, bull and wild boar to Posideon. If he follows these he has a chance of survival, however, if he fails, he and his men will perish.

    A Warning from Circe
    When Odysseus comes back from his trip Circe warns him of the dangers that lay ahead. She talks about the sirens and how they sing to lure in the victims. She tells him of Scylla the six headed monster who lives upon a cliff and will snatch up six men to feed. She describes Charybdis a mounstrous whirlpool that swallows entire ships, crew and all.

    The Sirens and Scylla
    To deal with the sirens Odysseus tells his men to tie him up and for his men to put wax in their ears. They manage to past by the sirens unharmed however when they near Syclla, Odysseus not being able to react quick enough, loses his six best men.

    The Cattle of the Sun God
    After leaving Scylla and the Sirens behind, Odysseus and his men reached the Island of the sun god, Helios. Odysseus warned them not to kill the Sun gods cattle which grazed on the Island. However, one of Odysseus's men, Eurylochus, convinces the men to kill the beasts and satisfy their hunger. Helios learning of the murder of his cattle is outrage and pleads to Zeus, God of thunder and King of Olympus, to destroy Odysseus and his men.

    The Wrath of Zeus
    Zeus agreed to Helios's plea to destroy the men who murdered his cattle. He destroyed the boats with bolts of lightning, only Odysseus managed to piece together a raft and float to an Island where a nymph named Calypso lived.
