    Bohrs Atomic Model
Neils Bohr was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Bohr was the first physicist to apply the quantum concept to the atomic and molecular structure. Prior to his discovery in 1913, Ernest Rutherford had conducted experiments on the atom. Rutherford's results described the atom as a "empty space with its mass concentrated around a tiny nucleus". Bohr a year later discovered that atoms do have a nucleus but have orbital electrons that charge the nucleus. This developed a new field of nuclear physics.

In 1922, Niels Bohr was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services in the investigation of the structure of atoms and of the radiation emanating from them".

Niels Bohrs Participation in the Manhattan Project
During WWII, Niels Bohr left Denmark to escape capture from the Nazis. Bohr fled to New Mexico for a new role as a consultant for the Manhattan Project. Bohr's participation in the making of nuclear weapons helped the United States in the nuclear arms race. However, Bohr became concerned that the weapons were too dangerous to be used. This theory was proved to be devastating at the end of WWII.

Niels Bohr "Open Letter to United Nations"
After World War II, Bohr wrote a letter to the United Nations. This letter presented challenges in the development of nuclear weapons. The letter called for cooperation between nations to have a safe approach to nuclear weapons since the operator could cause great destruction of nations if used wrong. Bohr was hoping that the Soviet Union would agree to cooperate and uphold a level of guaranteed mutual safety among nations. Bohr was terrified after seeing the devastation in Hiroshima.
