This model, with some improvements, is still used today to teach Chemistry and physics and was developed by Bohr after Rutherford’s discovery of the atomic nucleus. His model shows the different shells that electrons occupy around the nucleus. more information on the Bohr model:

Under the university of Copenhagen, Bohr headed the Institute for theoretical Physics. This institute was later renamed the Niels Bohr institute.
-
The Nobel prize in Physics was awarded to Bohr in 1922 "for his services in the investigation of the structure of atoms and of the radiation emanating from them."
-
Due to Nazi occupation in Copenhagen, Bohr escaped to Sweden. He spent the last 2 years of the war in England and New Mexico where he helped work on the Manhattan Project. There Bohr and a group of scientists, including Albert Einstein and one of Bohr's own sons, developed the atomic bomb during WWII.
