Birth & Birthplace
Niels Bohr was born in 1885 in Copenhagen, Denmark. -
Bohr Atomic Model (1913)
Although considered radical at the time, Niels Bohr theorized by applying quantum physics that electrons had specific circular orbits that they could occupy around the nucleus of an atom. He continued by expressing that the release of electromagnetic radiation from said atom can only occur when an electron shifted into a lower orbit. -
Bohr's Institute of Theoretical Physics
In 1921 Bohr established ihs own Institute of Theoretical Physics, basing and emphasizing, during its inauguration, the importance of physicists and experimental physics, being able to prove theories in reality with evidence. -
Periodic Table & Nobel Prize
Bohr continued his work, using his atomic model to classify and organize various atoms creating his own version of a periodic table, by adding electrons as his model would predict to each atom of various particles. His continued work let to him being rewarded with the Nobel Prize. -
The Atomic Bomb
Originally Bohr found the practicality of an atomic bomb implausible, until he was made aware of the Allied progress on a practical atomic bomb in 1943 during World War ll. This quickly changed is perspective of the possibility of this and then began working alongside others contributing to the Manhattan Project. -
The Passing of Niels Bohr
Bohr passed in 1962, after being able to return home to Copenhagen, after a lengthy and busy life contributing to physics and the field of science as a whole.
