In the 1920s Virginia was the first state to have Futures Farmers clubs for boys.

The FFA became a nation organization, a network of teachers guided the establishemnt of FFA as a team effort to establish a club for boys with similar interest in farming.

The NFA was formed for Black students in the South.

In 1950 the FFA became one of the few student organizations to reciee a Federal Charter from Congress (Public Law 740).

In 1965 and the FFA and NFA merged, becoming one of the first goups to integrate.

Girls were finally allowed to join the FFA.

The name was changed from Future Farmers of America to National FFA Organization to reflect the growing diversity of the agriculture industry.
