  • Brown V. Board of Education

    Brown V. Board of Education
    History of court caseAfrican American schools were shown to be inferior to white schools, This was brought to court and then tested to see if this effected the African American students. African American children were given dolls, completely identical except for skin color, all of the children had chosen the white doll over the black doll. This showed that the inferior school and segregation harmed the childrens own image of themselves.
  • Emmet Till

    Emmet Till
    Emmet till was a boy who had said, "bye", to white woman. Due to Emmets African American race he was being hunted by hate groups. He was killed and found just days after.
  • Montgomery Bus-Boycott

    Montgomery Bus boycottThe Montgomery bus boycott was a way for the African American population to be noticed. The population of bus riders were 90% African American. By doing so they would leave busses nearly empty and the government with a dip in money.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock 9The little rock nine were 9 African highschool students who attempted to attend a newly integrated highschool, Central High school. But for 3 weeks the state guard had been at the doors of the school rejecting their entrance. After that the president and sent a personal message to the governor and allowed them to go to school. They finished the rest of the school year at Central High but were harassed daily by the white students.
  • Sit-Ins

    Sit-Ins
    4 college students went to a lunch counter to order coffee but were denied service. After being denied service they sat there the rest of the day waiting to be arrested but were never taken. They then came back the following days with more and more people filling every single seat of the lunch counter. This then spread and became a major boycotting movement.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom RidersA bus carrying White and African American passengers drove throught the south. At each stop the African Americans would occupy the White's only areas in protest. But in their stop at Anniston, Alabama a mob awaited their stop and bombed the bus and beat all of the passengers.
  • The Albany Movement

    The Albany Movement occured after MLK Jr's arrest. People would fill all the jails in the area so no more people could be arrested. Meaning no more people could go to jail and the governor would have to listen to demands.
  • Letters from Birmingham

    MLK's letterMLK Jr was sent to jail for for being a civil rights activist. White in jail white clergymen used newspaper ads to attack MLK, in response MLK had taken the newspapers and written responses on the margins of the paper.
  • Freedom Summer

    Freedom SummerAfter the 24th amendment had passed, Highschool students were employed to register new voters. White and black students were given these jobs and this was a step forward, but the white students were still payed significantly more than the black students.
