    Emmett Till
    Emmett Till Emmett Till was a young 14 year old African American boy that was beaten and killed. He was kidnapped first and was killed, because he went to go talk to a little white girl in the store. His body was found four days later in the river, severly beaten.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    Montgomery Bus Boycott An African American woman named Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus. The bus was stopped and she was arrested, which lead to the boycott of the busses. About two-thirds fo the bus riders were African American and when they stopped riding the bus the bus company lost a lot of money.
  • Little Rock

    Little Rock
    In Arkansas the governer didn't want the nine African American teenagers to be educated at Central High Little Rock. The governer wanted to keep school's segregated, so he deployed the National Guard to stop the nine students from entering the school. This went on for three weeks untill President Eisenhower deployed the federal troops to end the standoff.
  • Sit-Ins

    Sit-Ins
    Four African American students sat down at the counters and were asked to leave but the refused to leave their seats. This movement spread across the country and more African Americans were arrested for it. They police would have to arrest waves of people, because more sat down when the others were arrested.
  • Freedom RIdes

    Freedom RIdes
    Interstate busses were still segregated, so African Americans rode in busses across the country and were arrested. They were taken to jails when the jails had no space they would ask neighboring towns to put them in. When they couldn't fit anymore people the city officials were forced to meet demands of the African American Civil Rights Leaders.

    "Bull" Connor
    Bull Connor was the Commisioner of Public Safety and was elected into that position six times. When roits broke out the fire department was called in, to spray down the roiters with the high pressure water. He used this tatic when people wanted to begin a march and would sometimes release the city police dogs.
  • Albany Movement

    Albany Movement
    An event was held to desegregate downtown stores for a single day, but many of the stores didn't participate. This lead to roits and many Afriacn Americans were arrested. The media was used to show the ignorance of the white Americans. The story was told in many different languages and America was ashamed.

    MLK Jr. Letter From Birmingham Jail
    Martin Luther King Jr. went to jail to join the other African Americans that were arrested for peaceful protest. When in jail Martin Luther King read a newspaper article about him, which discriminated against him. So, then he wrote a response to the article around the margin of the New York Times.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    The march was held at the Lincoln memorial were John Lewis and Martin Luther King Jr. were to deliver their speeches. One of the old men asked John Lewis to change his speech, but John Lewis didn't. Many African Americans and whites came from across the country to view the historic event.
  • 3 Civil Rights Workers Murdered

    3 Civil Rights Workers Murdered
    Their were three people who went missing for supporting the Civil Rights Movement. There was a big search held to find the three, which took about two weeks. They were found dead at a man made dam and were shot by a 35 calaber bullet. Nobody was charged for the crime and the people got away with it.
