    The Women's Political Council meets with Montgomery mayor W. A. Gayle to outline their recommended changes for the Montgomery bus system. Regarding the law with segregation in buses.

    Rosa Parks was arrested
    Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her seat to a white person in the front of the bus, because of the law requiring racial segregation of public buses which meant the front 10 seats were reserved for white passengers.

    On the 5th of December the WPC calls for a one day boycott of the Montgomery buses after Rosa Parks was arrested just on the 1st of the month

    After agreeing on extending the boycott the MIA then issued a formal list of demands. which the city refused to comply with.

    After the city refused to comply with this list of demands the MIA implemented the car pool system to those partaking in the boycott to help those get to where they need to go.

    On the 30th in January Dr.Kings house was bombed after he called for the pageful protests rather than violence, on the 1st of February E.D Nixons home was bombed as well.
  • 1921 law

    Over 80 boycott leaders were indicted by the city under Alabama's anti-conspiracy laws under a 1921 law prohibiting conspiracies that interfered with lawful business which King was tried and either had to pay $500 fine or serve 1 year in prison. Even with that happening the boycott continued

    On June 5th a A federal district court rules that bus segregation is unconstitutional.In the court case in Browder v. Gayle
  • Supreme Court

    The Supreme Court upholds the district court ruling that it is unconstitutional, and strikes down laws requiring racial segregation on buses. The MIA resolves to end the boycott only when the order to desegregate is officially implemented.
  • Boycott ends

    Boycott ends
    Montgomery's buses are officially desegregated. The MIA ends the boycott and they all start to use the buses again since the Supreme Court's ordered injuction against segregation on city buses are delivered to the Montgomery City Hall.
